Once the fabrication process is completed, the steel surface needs to be properly prepared before receiving protection against corrosion. For certain applications, street light poles can undergo galvanizing, which provides the steel surface with a protective zinc coating.

This means that the fabrication process does not end when the steel has been formed into a pole. Quality inspection and surface finishing are also important parts of the final product.
